GL movie was good in my opinion, Ryan Reynolds was a good Hal, and the comedy to people being ripped from their bodies to fear ratio well. And hope they finish what they started with the ending. ii would compare the GL movie to iron man 1, simply laying the groundwork. Iron man barely showed off as much in no 1 and would like to see GL do more creative ass kicking.

...without taking the time and energy to do the appropriate due diligence on Licensing and Setup. I fear JL is doomed to fall on its face without the appropriate setup and backstory on the characters when it deserves the same attention given to their Marvel counterparts.  :-/

While I agree that John Stewart made the best Lantern, the Origin was with Hal Jordan, and that's where it needed to start. Despite the campy overtone at times, the story did nail Hal Jordan fairly well and Reynolds pulled it off.

In the end, Green Lantern was overshadowed by competition with the release of Thor in the much anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe leading up to The Avengers. Now with the success of Avengers, Warner Bros and DC are scrambling for a Justice League movie...

FWIW, the downfall of this Green Lantern wasn't so much the story or Ryan Reynolds. The problem was Warner Bros Marketing and the first impression we got of this movie was a campy, comedic Trailer that went over like a lead balloon. It was almost a month before we got a worthy trailer, but by then it was lampoon fodder. Then there was the release which practically put it head to head with Thor which, pardon the pun, stole Lantern's thunder. IMHO, Lantern was better than Thor overall.
