Annabel Park and Eric Byler created the Youtube channel "9500Liberty" in October 09, 2007, to protest controversial local immigration policies and the conflicts they caused in a county in northern Virginia. Two years later, they premiered their film '9500 Liberty" at the DC Asian Pacific American Film 2009 Festival [www.apafilm.org]. I spoke with Annabel Park at the Opening Night Reception, after the sold out screening.
"9500 Liberty" tells the story of the Fernandez family, parents from Mexico and children born in the U.S., they decided to build a wall in their home located in Prince Williams County, Virginia. The Fernandez were protesting racist anti-immigrant policies passed by the County government. What happens after is the beginning of a journey that involved many people and stories, a fascinating film indeed with a strong message that advocates for immigration reform in the U.S.
