The 123 year old Fowler locomotive at the Don River Railway is back in steam. Although it is not quite ready to haul service trains, it is shown here running in the yard to the north of the workshops on Saturday June 19 2010

  • I think you must have been looking at the 1880 Dubs that used to sit near the front fence. The Fowler was in the Hobart yard 1944-1972, Launc. 1972-74, EBR workshops 1974-1980, Don workshops since 1981, new boiler constructed starting 1995, was in steam 2007. Some minor jobs still being done as at 21 Oct 2010. All engines as listed are out of service mainly due to boiler ticket expiry, M4 has been run in the last few days and is awaiting a boiler ticket. M6 is in Victoria.

  • The Fowler was acting as "THOMAS" back in 2007 when it was last in service. It is due to be repainted soon.

  • Last I looked at the Fowler it was a rusty wreck near the front fence and I was told it would never be restored. Amazing transformation.

One question: Why are MA2, The Dubs, CCS23, CCS25 & M4 all out of service? Wasn't there a plain C or CC on the way as well? And hadn't M6 (I think) been returned to service?

  • What colour will it be, black with lined red? Nice vid btw.

  • Looks Like Thomas :D
