The Adventures Of Gamerboy Part I : Church Of Childhood Memories

It can be argued that all music takes inspiration from some form. Whether it is from an existing piece of music, a loved one, a past experience or even a set of numbers, all music is imagined with external sources in mind. With the experimental focus in mind, 'The Adventures Of Gamerboy' aims to take its inspiration from a source that has never been used before within the world of music.
The 'Adventures of Gamerboy' is a series of compositions using the physical act of playing video games as inspiration. The times of the buttons being pressed are recorded and it is this data that has been used to structure the pieces. The title is designed to be a parody of the old 1980/90 arcade game.
The first game to be played was the original 'Grand Theft Auto' game (1997). The piece was titled 'The Church Of Childhood Memories', A direct quote from the arranged samples, and an overall summery of the mood of the piece.
The project began with some ambiguity as to how it would take form. The pieces presented do not shy away from this fact, instead they are designed to embrace the uncertainty such an experiment will naturally carry with it. The themes within the project are designed to be developed throughout. The very nature of an experiment is that of uncertainty, and as with all experiments this project aims to show its findings, as well as its trials and errors.
