Before coming to Marquette, Dr. Daniel Sem cofounded a drug development company in San Diego. Balancing his duties as an owner and vice-president for biophysics, he was pulled between his responsibility to make a profit for investors and developing drugs people needed but wouldn't be able to afford. Sem explains the complexity and expense of developing a drug and bringing it to market and the advantages of drug development in an academic setting.
