define unsharpened?
You didn't have this sharpened from the store that you obtained it from?

Who else is just waiting for his wife to come out screaming. "Ed, I told you to leave my trees alone"!
-
Please, buy a machete instead of torturing that poor sword. It hasn¨t done you anything!^^
-
Be sure to give the poor tree a hug sometimes :(
-
If I was testing a sword to distruction, I'd be wearing safety gear.

I can't believe I'm olde enough to say "when I was your age" - but when I was your age there just weren't many companies making swords; and the ones they were selling were crap.
Be glad you live in a golden age of swordmaking and a rebirth of interest in swords and weapons.

Yes indeed, and it is all because of the internet!

I am sure that banging a sword against a tree is a very bad idea. not good for the sword, not good for the tree.
Windless while not a bad sword is not a good sword either.
As for not finding a real katana on the internet, you just don't know where to look.

It's definitely not something I recommend as normal useage. A good way to test for any flaws in the hilt and the overall quality of the blade, but you don't want to do it very often. It sounds funny, but I am in complete agreement with you!
