Elena Gilbert's life was turned upside down when her parents were killed in a car crash, which she miraculously survived. As she struggles to come to terms with the tragedy, her path crosses that of handsome, mysterious Damon Salvatore. He fills the emptiness in her life with his reckless charm and intense affection, and for Elena, his love holds the key to a fresh start.

But Elena's guardian, her uncle John Gilbert, knows Damon's terrible secret... and he, and Mystic Falls' Founders' Council, will not rest till their town is safe once more.

the dichotomy of stefan & damon's relationship is so captivating though. without opposing characteristics the show would just be another 'Twilight' teenage romance flop. The complexity of their love, and what each are willing (or not willing) to do for Elena makes the show (and books) all the more worthwhile to me. :) DELENA FTW!!! <3

@pianoforte1776 I've started to like Stefan better since the last eppies of S2, coz he's showing more of his OWN personality instead of trying to be who he WANTS to be. He's cool enough on his own - loyal and loving, but he finally has his own opinions and choices. His decision to save Damon at the cost of his own future showed what he is capable of when he isn't wimping out for Elena. TVD is finally giving Stefan the chance to shine as the hero he's meant to be, and NOW let the best man win :)

CAN I JUST SAY SOMETHING ELENA IS FORCED TO BE WITH STEFAN AND SHE IS IN LOVE WITH DAMON AND THERES NO RULE PLUS IF THERE WAS THEY WOULD BE BREAKIN IT IF SHE ENDS UP WITH DAMON BUT THE LAST EPISODE OF EASON 2 DELENA KISS EPIC SAD LOVELY EXCITING AND ROMANTIC WITH GONE WITH THE WIND BACKGROUND BUT THEN DAMON COLAPSES AT THE END OF THE KISS AND ELENA FALLS DOWN WITH HIM CRYING NEXT TO HIM

I'm waiting for the last eppy - I've been waiting for almost 44 eppies for ONE REAL KISS so I hope it's not like a oh, goodbye smooch that's only because he's dying. There are no rules in love but Elena for some reason I don't understand loves Stefan and no Damon, so we for now have to deal with it. Not.Cool.Though

@DelenaPetroVatOr I love Damon's character so much, but trust me.... sometimes the nice and less "daring" guys (Stefan) are the better choice (in reality, not TVD of course lol). Let me tell you, I've dated so many "bad ass" guys, you begin to think that's all you know how to be with... then when Mr. Innocent comes along you want to date him, but it feels so awkward & strange from what you're used to. Is this non-sensical, or do some of you ladies know where i'm comin' from? :P

@Micromusecut exactly, right? b/c how else are you going to know if ____ is the person you want to share your whole life with? well, i am biased i suppose lol - my parents divorced since they had nothing in common anymore...drifted apart. it happens even to the best of people if they don't constantly work on maintaining what they have. @pianoforte1776 ur comment is amazing, I couldn´t agree more! romances that starts too fast, like " love at first sight" are so boooring...in 99% of the cases! I want a build-up, like with Damon and Elena!! I love those love/hate-relationships, where they can´t live with eachother nor live without eachother!
