  • @MatlockJack nope the wandering spider is but funnel web comesinto contact with people more often

  • @GassyBastard are you joking?

  • Is it a male?? I raise P. nigriventer and I can't tell...the pedipalps are of a female but the red abdomen is a male's -_-'

  • @GassyBastard No you don't Phoneutria is common to South Amercia only. If you do you have an eco system problem.

  • It's the world's most aggressive; not most toxic.

  • No actually; the world's most venemous spider is the Australian Northern Tree Dwelling Funnelweb; toxic to the very last drop.

  • These are very common here... every time I go camping one of these beasts try to get in my tent.

  • Actually, the Wandering Spiders (genus Phoneutria) have caused more fatalities over the years. The Sydney Funnel Web spider's bite hasn't caused a fatality in Australia since either '79 or '80. Both the Funnel Web Spiders and the Wandering Spiders have specific antivenins available. In terms of outright toxicity, the most dangerous spider is the Six Eyed Sand Spider (Sicarius hahnii) of South Africa. Two recorded bites, one resulting in death, the other in amputation.

  • The Funnel Web is more dangerous, and the bite from that in some ways is worse because you can die in as little as 15 minutes. Also they inject more venom than the Wandering Spider, and because they are smaller, they are a lot harder to see. It's not until after you're bitten by the Atrax when you realize you have been bitten by the most dangerous spider.

  • Yes care is very important. Once my phoneutria gave a huge jump when I was putting a cricket on the cage. Luckily(for me) it bit the cricket and not my hand!
