My family go back in the east end (Bethnal Green and Shoreditch etc) at least 2 hundred years (maybe longer I'm trying to find out).

point is that I'm the last generation of my family to do so, the place is now such a socially divided, mixed up shithole that Ive moved away just so that my kids can go to an English speaking school. but hey, thats Britain for you, losing It's real identity a little more every day. :-(

Enjoyed your images of old Bethnal Green in this video and on the stills on other sites. Like another of your respondents I am from family living in Shoreditch, Bethnal Green & Hackney since at least 1815 and likely earlier (working on research). However, I STILL live in the area (in fact in Gore Road which features in your Victoria Park stills) and I find it is still a wonderful area to live, more vibrant and colourful in some ways but still a lovely community if you're not xenophobic!
