My New York City apartment is getting a badly needed kitchen renovation. I've torn out the old cabinets and appliances and replaced them with new cabinets, counters, refrigerator and a sink from Ikea along with a new stove, microwave range hood, and a dishwasher from Sears. Life has taken some wicked turns since this project started, but it is finally finished...

  • We finally sold the apartment in January 2011... and we got hosed. Lost $55k when you factor in the hard costs of the new kitchen to the original purchase price. Add in another $20k+ in monthly carrying costs as we waited for anyone to make us an offer (or even look at the place.) You don't win them all and sometimes you lose big.

  • i was going to ask how the kitchen was holding up, but it sounds by this video that you were selling the place, and likely don't know how its holding up...thanks for the videos anyway!

  • Unfortunately, you are correct about the sale. We'll never get to enjoy the new kitchen first hand.

But, I can say that the quality of the Ikea cabinets was excellent - I was particularly impressed with the drawers (very solid with smooth slides.) The butcher block is also quality wood.

I think the kitchen will hold up well to regular use.

  • Well, congrats on the sale. I'm heading to the Paramus Ikea to take a look. Thanks!

  • Not sold yet - but on the market.

    Good luck with your project.

  • Ikea cabinets are nothing but crap, for you paid for them you could've gotten RTA(Ready to Assemble) Cabinets which are much better built and they come with solid hardwood not that wanna be press on laminet crap that Ikea offers.

Do your homework and you will see what I mean.

  • Did you sell it yet?
