Ins&Outs got to participate in two major Queens arts events this summer. Check out our video, where we interview the people who made TRANS-POSITIONS Along the Queensboro Bridge and the Queens Art Express happen. TRANS-POSITIONS (June 1-July 31), celebrating the centennial of our very own Queensboro Bridge, showcases the work of 44 artists across 5 venues, including the Henry Deford III Gallery at the Citibank building. That's where we caught up with the show's curator, Judith Tolnick Champa of LIC Artists, who told us all about the exhibit, much of which is inspired by the historic bridge.
The Queens Art Express (May 30-June 14) celebrated the artistic communities along the seven-mile route on the 7 train from Flushing to Times Square. The annual festival, sponsored by the Queens Council on the Arts, was packed with gallery exhibitions and live performances in public spaces throughout neighborhoods clustered along the train route. Featured LIC venues included P.S. 1, Dean Project, Dorksy Gallery, Socrates Sculpture Park, and Local Project.
And if that's not enough artistic adventures for you this sunny season, check out Live at the Gantries for some outdoor music in Gantry Plaza State Park, on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. all summer long!
