One of the most beautiful cities in Japan.
The thing about Kyoto is you need to know where to go because if you just get out at the station and randomly wander you could be fooled into thinking you are in a dungy city with not so much going for it. There is a tourist office in front of JR Kyoto Station with lots of help in English and they will steer you in the right direction. A little research beforehand can also go a long way to providing you with a much more satisfying experience.
