"Priming" a shaving brush with soap then mixing in your favorite shaving cream can create an incredible lather. Use glycerin, olive-oil, or Savon de Marseille shaving or facial soaps. Do NOT use commercial bathing soaps (Camay, Dial, Lifebuoy, etc.)!

  • Started wet shaving today and all I know I know from you. ^^

However, my lather ends up kind of watery and I can't get it as thick on my face as in the videos. Does it need more water or less to get it thicker, or do I just need to stir it longer?

  • @Yora21 You probably just need to stir a little longer

  • Can you clarify something I read a while back....I recall reading that you shouldn't use any type of oil in combination with your shave brush and cream as you will do harm to the bristles. I personally use a silver tip badger hair brush. Thanks in advance.

  • @maydanlex some oils are brush-friendly, particularly if they come from a company that also sells shaving brushes. Art of Shaving, Pacific Shaving, or Truefitt & Hill for example. But when in doubt, avoid oils you might find in the grocery store or drugstore/chemist.

  • mantic59-couple questions for you:

-Using this method, do you use the same 'almond' size amount of cream?

-Do you use this super lather regularly or once in a while?

Thanks for all the videos. They were very helpful in my starting to shave using a DE.

  • @pantablo i can usually get away with less cream, maybe a little bigger than a pea. I don't do this regularly, just when I feel like it.

  • Its funny, shaving used to be an annoying chore, until I started using shaving soap and an old school "safety razor!" Heck, one of these days I might get a spiffy straight razor! thanks for sharing this nifty footage!
