The Kata is just a leveled down representation of different movements. By shaping out one against an opponent,you put the others aside for that moment.

Stiking to the representative form and not to the actual attack would be senseless.

When I watch this video the Kata is not being performed but the defender is using what he has learned in Bassai Dai.
