When kids play with their food it's cute. When Washington does, it costs lives. Tell Washington to stop playing with food aid: http://www.oxfamamerica.org/foodaid

It's time to put an end to the wasteful special interest deals by reforming food aid programs in the 2012 Farm Bill. If we cut the red tape we can reach up to 17 million more people with life-saving aid at no additional cost to taxpayers. Save millions more lives, without spending a dime. It's a no-brainer.

Thank you for your comment. Decades of experience fighting hunger has shown us that the only way to achieve lasting solutions to poverty, hunger and injustice is to challenge the political obstacles that keep poor people poor. This video aims to mobilize people to advocate for policy reforms that will help break down the barriers to meaningful change. It’s a small investment but one experience shows us is well-worth making.

Tell Washington to stop playing with food aid - lives depend on it.

Nice video, and a worthy investment. Ignore the short-sighted and ignorant haters who don't realize that the money spent producing this video can bring valuable intangible returns for the cause.

Even food that reaches local markets transparently may have a negative effect: if it is distributed free or sold at below-market prices it may force local farmers out of business. The best "aid" outside countries can give is to purchase food directly from developing-country farmers. This has a further benefit of stimulating local food production, providing income, and avoiding reliance on aid permanently.

1.8 billion? where did you get that figure? No money is sent to the EU, unless its in trade

In fact, cant find any evidence of any type of aid (say during natural disaster or crisis situations) in the past 40 years.

Bullshit figure you just pulled out?

Do you really think the failing US economy can afford to send a much wealthier economy money for the hell of it? the US cant even afford its domestic debt, much less international

    US GNP = 11.2 trillion

    EU GNP = 19.8 trillion

If one was to ignore the ≐$1.8 billion sent to Europe annualyI'd be inclined to agree with you.

However you're comment regarding my masculinity leads me to believe this is indeed a snobby Euro trying to boost his ego to compensate the fact the EU is falling apart because its powerhouses are unable to support the entire union, very unlike the American union.

    Good day.

Europe already contributes more foreign aid than the US worldwide... in fact, Europe sent financial aid to America for a variety of natural disasters that it wasnt able to handle (e.g. Katrina)

No reason to get all defensive and insecure... dont be so intimidated and threatened: isnt about time to grow a pair and for once in your life act like a man?

So what do you want? You want Europe to send food to America? You want Europe to send food aid to places like North Korea in place of the U.S? You want America to improve its standards? What was the point of your message?

If it was another one of those snooty Euro-snobs jerking off their ego-type message, then screw off.

I work in this field and I don't get this video at all, sorry. I must be out of touch with the American public - does this work for generating a message? I agree no one should play with their food, but what is the solution here?

I was arguing for the cause and not against it. The intangible returns I was referring to was the value that people see in preventing the wastage that you have so nicely mentioned - something I believe is valuable to society, but considered intangible as well. I assure you I did not mean to confuse anyone and I apologize if I did.
