he statewide smoking ban went into effect Saturday -- but did anyone observe it?

24 Hour News 8 went to about 25 bars to investigate whether businesses were abiding by the ban, even when no one was watching.

  • @OmegaWolf747 were fucking killin' it now. And another plus to the situation?? Sooooo many more hot women sit at the bar now that there isn't some stinkin' redneck blowing his Marlboro Red smoke all over them!!! And the smokers??? They're addicted asses still come to the bar. I guess their "bluff" to not come to the bars anymore must of gone up in smoke!!!!

  • @OmegaWolf747 our bar (oldest bar in Raleigh, NC, The Players Retreat) has done nothing but FLOURISHED since the ban started on 1/1/10. It's was hilarious to listen to the smokers (before the ban went into effect but after they knew it was coming) act like the bars wouldn't make it "without them". They fail to do the math: 80% of the population are NONSMOKERS. It was interesting to see new people come to the bar and say "this is so nice, I never sat at the bar b/c of all the nasty smoke".

  • I hope every bar that loses business and profit because of this ban files suit against the state. The state doesn't have the constitutional authority to burden the small business man with laws that are going to eat away at his profits.

  • Bars are *NOT* required to act as enforcers. They are *NOT* required to physically eject smokers or call authorities unless they want to.

They *ARE* required to *POST* no smoking signs, *REMOVE* fire-safety equipment (ashtrays), *INFORM* smokers they are violating the law, *ASK* the smoker to stop, & in refuse to smokers *WHILE* they are smoking. Finally if the individual continues to smoke *ASK* them to leave.

Read the law itself. Its simple, short, and clear.

  • Are they telling the truth when they say the ban is just to protect workers and not about "punishing smokers"? If that was *REALLY* the truth theyd allow food & drink on the patios so you could sit, smoke, and relax. . Is that allowed? Of course not: they're lying. They just want to make smoking as uncomfortable as possible to pressure smokers. Google these words McFadden Stiletto Defiance

    & read the New Stiletto.
