Tunes by and for Cape Breton fiddler Jerry Holland (2/23/55 - 7/16/09) from a show by Highland Soles (Ed Pearlman, Laura Scott, Neil Pearlman, Lilly, Jesse) with Susie Burke and David Surette Aug 2, 2009. Dance was written by Laura Scott for Jerry's Fr John Angus Rankin's March and was originally danced to Jerry's playing at the Scottish Fiddle Rally in Boston 1993; the first reel is Helping Hands, Jerry's last composition (which he perfomed July 6, 2009 at the Ceilidh Trail School, transcribed by guitarist/composer/conductor Scott Macmillan and premiered by the school's students at Hoff's Pub on July 10); the last two tunes here are two of Jerry's most popular tunes, Brenda Stubbert's reel and Stan Chapman's jig. Part of this medley was played and danced at Boston's Concert for Jerry on 9/9/07 to raise funds for his treatment; many musicians performed and Jerry was able to watch that show via video hookup at home. Tunes: Auld Lang Syne (sung); Auld Lang Syne (original melody and popular melody); MacPherson's Lament; Fr John Angus Rankin's March (by J.H.); Alec Dan MacIsaac's strathspey (trad); Helping Hands (reel by J.H.); Brenda Stubbert's (reel by J.H.); Stan Chapman's (jig by J.H.).
