I understand the impulse, but a crucible is like 10 bucks, borax mapp gas instead of propane, (tip is fine) and you 'll melt 5 grams in seconds, w even the wrong tip can take half hour if at all, but hey we all learn best hands on

yeah im melting a bunch of silver spoons i think you need ceramic lol

I know this is an old video. Just wondering if propane ever worked for you? Ive tried it Many times-with a silica melting dish and borax for flux. Does not work for me. Wasted two cylinders of propane. Bought a small set up from Menards-mapps and oxy. Works great. Propane under same conditions will not work. Everyone says it does. Hmm, why not for me? Did your propane ever work? Joe, from Anoka.

I thought you have to put flux if you want to melt metal ..

@100silverpizza ah, but my mama told me if ya never try, ya won't know, I 'll listen to mine!

You could have melted it right on that wood if you carbonize the wood first with a candle or acetylene torch without the O2 on. But it will want to ball up on ya, even with the trough in the wood

Propane and propane accessories.

U can do it it's just u need a heat source from underneath so butane or propane wud be fine just from underneath

@edwyrd Thanks for checking out my channel...glad you liked it! I'm melting copper and aluminum scrap mostly from e-waste. I'm not sure how a ceramic mug would work for you with melting your silver. I'm not an expert, but when I was first learning about melting down silver, I tried to melt some on a 12" ceramic floor tile,,,and after about 5 minutes the tile exploded, and silver didn't melt! Now, I got a silica melting dish off Ebay for $8 which works great. Just sayin'....be careful.
Propane is fine to melt silver with (done it many times),,,but your problem wasn't the fuel or lack of any flux (borax),,,,it was the steel can you were trying to melt in. The can was acting as a heat sink, and not allowing the silver to get hot enough to liquefy. If you don't want to buy a silica melting dish for a few bucks, you can melt it right on a block of wood.
