I Danced with the devil.
I felt his words
They slithered t'ward me
Began Curl
Around my struggling body
His poetic deceptions
Uttered in the smoothest of soothing voices
A master of rhetoric and a twister of tongues,
I found myself bending to the will of evils son
He laced my ear with what I wanted to hear
Subtly working his way into my subconscious
And as his wordplay washed over my willing mind
I found myself beginning to love his words and pine
That I myself had not the mastery of language of he
He finished his utterance and smiled a smile
'What do you think my dear child?'
I felt myself shrink under the pressure of his gaze
'I?' I mumbled still in a daze
left by the magic that he held over words
The magic that I could only curse
That I didn't have to respond to his question
I summoned my best linguistic deception
'Dear Devil' I said 'In response to your question'
'You know what I think, you are inside my head'
'I can feel you there preventing my mind'
'From creating an utterance that could counter yours'
'My rhetorical flair stricken has been to the flaw'
I grew taller and the devil seemed to shrink
It seemed to me that I was on the brink
Of casting the bastard out of my head
But the devils gaze filled me with dread
'Well done my child. You have caught me out'
The Devil whispered, without moving his lips
He was still in my head and it was clear to see
That the lyrical magic he used was in me
He was using my mind to outwit its self
I mustered my strength, I refused defeat
So, How to set about beating me?
The devil was rooted, had taken a seat
To watch myself take the battle to me
I said
'Is that you?'
Myself replied
"Is who me?"
To which i said
"I am. Are you you?"
to which i responded
"Am I me? I think I am..."
So i said:
"You're sure you're not mistaken?"
i Replied
"I could be...but last time i checked i was me."
So I suggested:
"Better check again, just to make sure."
"Good idea..."
I said, I proceeded to look from my head to the flaw
"Well, I look like me."
I answered wisely
"Yes, that's how they trick you."
I was confused...
"How who tricks me?"
I corrected myself
"Not me. You."
Still confused I asked
"I trick me?"
I questioned
"Do you?"
Unsure i said:
"Maybe."
berated myself:
"Well, do you?!"
Flustered I yelled
"No! No, I don't!"
Pleased i asked
"Good. Now, are you you, or an other you?"
I contemplated this:
"I'm the only me I know of..."
I asked myself
"But then who's me?"
Assuredly i responded
"The person talking to you."
Satisfied I said
"That makes sense; I am the one talking to you, and that makes me me."
Impatently.
"Well, how does that make you, you?"
pointedly i said:
"No, I am not you, I am me."
agreeing I replied:
"Well yes, you are me to you, but to me you are you."
i paused, thought the stated:
"No, you are you, and I am me."
Befuddled i asked:
"So im you?"
I said
"Yes."
The devils advocate was confused and disoriented.
The battle of language was as good as ended
I walked away to the door amongst doors
Walking to the sound of the devils applause.
