Former director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) "Hurricane Katrina: An Insider Tells His Side of the Story"
Nominated by President George W. Bush to several Homeland Security positions, Michael D. Brown was twice confirmed by the United States Senate. President Bush nominated Mr. Brown as the first Under Secretary in the Department of Homeland Security. That nomination was preceded by his unique experience as the President's appointee to lead a White House Transition Planning Office team for the newly created Department, making him the only Presidential nominee to work in a legacy agency (FEMA), on the transition team to the new department, and as one of the four senior leaders of the new department.
Prior to his nomination as Under Secretary, President Bush appointed him as General Counsel to the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Shortly after the September 11th terrorist attacks, the President nominated Mr. Brown as the Deputy Director of FEMA.
Following the September 11th attacks President Bush named Mr. Brown to the President's Consequence Management Principal's Committee, which served as the White House policy coordination group for the federal response to the attacks. The President later asked him to lead the Consequence Management Working Group to identify and resolve key issues regarding the federal response to future incidents of terrorism.
A native of Oklahoma, Mr. Brown holds a bachelor's degree in Public Administration and Political Science from the University of Central Oklahoma. He received his juris doctorate degree from the Oklahoma City University School of Law where he also taught as an adjunct professor.

Frankly, I think this guy is an unqualified dick. However, I do think he was clearly not the only incompetent fool to blame in this disaster and he became the main patsy. I worked volunteer work on the state level and you do need a lot of preparation that is often non-exsistant because the gov doesn't want to put funds towards it. The whole thing still makes me want to vomit. And we are screwed in a hurricane hits Long Island and NYC.
It shouldn't have taken the loooooong days in hundred degree heat and drowning waters to get those people outa there. Period. Yes, the administration was too busy chasing imaginary terrorists. 9/11 has been proven to be an inside job, with scientists, engineers, ex-CIA, ex 3 star generals, architects, steel experts, etc providing the proof. No court will take any of it. Our country is corrupt. These leaders need to be tried for treason. Why would they care about Katrina victims? They want money
This is an amazing interview. It's always important to get the other side of the story. I was surprised by how articulate and prescient Brown's comments were.
It's like most big/bloated companies. They only improve when people leave in disgust and write scathing letters in which management only then will take seriously.
I respect Brown. Not for his handling of Katrina, but for his frank candidness in this video.
It's funny how everyone who should have made a difference in this disaster had an excuse for why they didn't do what must be done....It is also horrible that I-15 years old at the time had better intel than DHS and FEMA combined......sad.
