The bad thing about older steam powered machines is that they used reglar boilers, which where big and heavy. Now days we have flash boilers which are small and compact and more effective then a regular boiler.

With flash boiler these machines would be the size of a car and have 500 horsepowers

your are right,never came on my mind but at the time this machine is made ,only rich or prosper will afford it and whoevr made it will not care about those who worked around or operate it, an example of the early american dream works.

@TheManInDboX Sigh This is a REPRODUCTION built in the USA 2005-2008 from parts made by local foundries and by fabrication. If anything broke Don Hunter who built the replica would fix it. Which is why your original post was complete moose drool

@fizzguts You are correct "Us Steel" Still exists, they produce less then 10% of the steel in the USA. They produced in 1901 about 67% of the steel in the US. So that tells me that you would need to get parts from elsewhere, since they do not produce excess. Supply and demand, Simple economics my friend.. Actually if you look deeper which i am sure you will, the Sumitomo company of Mexico supplies ALL of the US auto manufacturers with their steel..

Cast iron which the Holt uses. Dozens of small to medium casting and foundries such as Pier Foundry exist in the USA 20 seconds with Google would have told you all this.
