ZEN Department Store invites public to eyewitness worldwide moment of truth through a press photography exhibition entitled "Press Photo in Focus". Taking place at Zen's 8th floor, ZEN Event Gallery from June 18-July 6; the exhibition combines two press photography exhibitions featuring World Press Photo Exhibition and Thai Press Photo Exhibition. Alan Namchaisiri, President of ZEN Department Store, said that Press Photo in Focus is the most prestigious press photo exhibition co-organised by The Royal Netherlands Embassy in Thailand, Institute of Asian Studies, Thai Journalists Association, Isra Amantakul Foundation, Thai Health Promotion Foundation, ZEN Department Store, Kasikornbank Public Company Limited and Canon Marketing (Thailand) Company Limited. The event showcases award-winning photos of both international and Thai press photographs. "The exhibition is regarded as the most prestigious press photography exhibition as it brings together two most prominent press photo exhibitions; World Press Photo and Thai Press Photo, where the pictures reflect the world's joys and sorrows," revealed Alan.

Nattaya Chetchotiros, President of Thai Journalists Association, said that Press Photo in Focus is held to provide an opportunity for both photojournalists and general public to experience and learn the importance of international and Thai press photography. The exhibition aims to raise awareness on global, local and social issues with an utmost goal to promote peace and unity in the country.

"The exhibition not only plays as eyewitness records of the world, but also reflects the art of photojournalism. It showcases 'Moment of Truth' captured by press photographers around the world. As a sponsor of the event, Thai Health Promotion Foundation also organizes a mini exhibition entitled 'Make Happiness', displaying pictures that portray Thai people's both physical and mental happiness," explained Dr. Sunait Chutintaranond, Director of Institute of Asian Studies.

H.E. Pieter J. Th. Marres, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Thailand, said that World Press Photo Exhibition showcases news-related images submitted by photojournalists from all over the globe. The annual contest has been organized for more than five decades, with its prize-winning photographs assembled into an exhibition traveling to many countries around the world.

" 'World Press Photo' exhibition captures social events from around the world through the lens and creativity of photojournalists. It aims to enhance the professionalism of photojournalists and stimulate creativity of press photographers," added His Excellency.

As for Thai Press Photo exhibition, works of Thai photojournalists who won the Isra Amantakul Awards, Thailand's most prestigious press photo award held yearly since 1973 by Thai Journalists Association, are on display in the exhibition.

Photojournalists and general public are invited to join activities held during the exhibition period, including talks, discussions and workshops without charge.

Discussion sessions include World Press Photo Judging Criteria: What It Takes to Become a World Press Winning Photographer participated by Phillip Blenkinsop, renowned photographer and World Press Photo award winner and Mr. Micha Bruinvels, World Press Photo Foundation Representative and contest organizer. The discussion will take place on June 18 at 3 pm.

A talk on the power of press photos dubbed "Power of Photography: How Photographs Change Our World" will be on June 21 at 3 pm.

Those interested in the ethical dilemma of digital retouching do not miss "Photography & Digital Retouching", held on June 28 at 3 pm.

"Earth Focus", a talk on press photography and its influence on green movements, will be held on July 5 at 3 pm.




Students interested in press photograph are invited to enter XPRESSion workshop organized by Daily Xpress. The activity aims to provide a stage for students to express their point of view. Selected works will be published in Daily Xpress.

Behind the Lens, a special activity to be attended by both international and Thai photojournalists who will reveal their private photo albums and inspirations behind those pictures, will be held on June 20 and June 27 at 6 pm-8 pm.

Last but not least is Camera Workshop, a workshop organized by Canon on photo shooting techniques for photography enthusiasts, which will be held every Friday on June 20, 27 and July 4 at 3 pm - 5 pm.
