The Nuon Solar Team and their solar racing car Nuna6 will travel to Australia by the end of August. On August 11th, 2011, they held a Ready, Set Go(ld) event to show the Nuna6 to their friends, families, sponsors and the press.
This video shows the Nuna6 entering the Amsterdam Olympic Stadium, where the event took place, a speech by the team leader and race between the Nuna6 and its predecessor, the Nuna5.
I didn't have the time to subtitle this video, so here's a short summary of the race:
The Nuna6 is about 10% more efficient, aerodynamically speaking, than the Nuna5. To demonstrate this the battery of both cars were filled with only 25 Watt-hours of energy, and on this tiny amount of energy they raced each other to see which car would travel the furthest.
The Nuna5 exhausted its battery about 30% faster, proving the efficiency of the new car.
Second place in the 2011 World Solar Challenge. Not the gold you intended, still a phenomenal performance. Congratulations!
