How to bridge phpBB3 with Joomla
• Bridging is the process in which two web software programs are integrated in some way. The best Joomla extension for bridging with phpBB3 is called Mehdi's phpBB THREE bridge.
• Bridging is a complicated process, so this tut is targeted at intermediate Joomla administrators.
• Bridge allows you to separately enable visual integration and user integration. It will require PHP 5 for functioning. You will need access to phpMyAdmin (FTP client and text editor).
• Check the extensions at extensions.joomla.org. Navigate to Bridges/ Forum bridges category and find the page for Mehdi's phpBB THREE page. Click on download button.
• If you have many phpBB3 users, you will want to ensure that many users register with Joomla user account with identical name before proceeding. Click on download now button and save the files to system. Go inside the folder and upload all the files contained in hacked folder to your phpBB3 root directory. Do the same with bridge folder. If the version does not match, you will not be sure what your version is and you can edit and rename some files by hand.
• Copy the files quickprocess2.bat and begin.txt from others folder to the newly created folder. The original files will be moved with addition of inc_ at the front of every filename. By opening the first file, you will be directed to command prompt. Press a key to continue. Rename index.php too. Adjust the current folder. Save and return to the explorer. Copy index.php and move it to one up directory.
• Click on Download folder. Rename file.php as before. Paste the file you copied before. Rename index.php to file.php. Edit this file and change the folder name as download. Save it.
• Go up to two directories. Go to phpBB directory. Enter to hacked directory -: includes -: UTF. Copy utf_tools.php. Return to main directory. Enter phpBB3 directory again. Enter UTF. Rename existing file as before. Then, open inc_ file with the text editor.
• Add the code to line if (!defined('IN_PHPBB') && !defined ('JOOM15_PHPB3')
• Now, go to Bridge. Save and return to the main folder. Open joomphpbb_conf2.php. Do not change or edit anything and proceed as it is. Make amendments in URL, if required.
• Select all the files in directory and copy them all to the working phpBB3 directory. Save the file. Upload everything to phpBB3 directory. Before testing the changes, first go to phpMyAdin and execute bridge SQL file.
• Choose phpbb database. Browse SQL file. Scroll down. Click on Go button at the bottom. Query will be successfully executed and table will be created.
• Click on phpbb_users tab from left side. Move on operations tab. Fill the various mentioned entities. You will get information about the success in installation of component.
• Select menu item type to External link. Click on New button. Fill in the options and click on Save button, when done.
• You will get the whole list of items with the different columns displaying various items.
• Check the uninstalled styles and install the entity you wish to install. Make the default option. Click on submit button to send your request.
• The final step will be to upload the file to root Joomla directory, run the script to browser and delete from FTP.

i had no issues with this install but when i execute my phpbb i get these "are you sure you want to leave this page" prompts. I'm not sure why they popped up or how to remove them. i may stay away from this method until that problem is solved.. is anyone else getting these prompts btw?

@looniebinuk No idea why on earth you would want to uninstall but, should you wish too...
1. Set your authentication back to PHPBB in ACP
2. Remove ALL original files that you assigned 'inc_' duplicates of.
E.G. if you created a file 'inc_file.php' where you also have a file, 'file.php', remove 'file.php' then remove the 'inc_' from the beginning of 'inc_file.php' so you have the original 'file.php'
3. Remove the table 'joomphpbb_bridge' from your database.
That should do it!

@BunPie2010 I know that this is an old comment but just incase anyone else is using a mac too...
If you don't have a mac, simply rename the files in your root phpbb3 directory, prepending 'inc_' to all php files - That's It!!!

I had the same problem but I downloaded the older joomlaphpbb bridge for 1.0 from mehdi's site and copied the file "begin" from the others folder and renamed it to begin2.txt - I followed the rest of the instructions as normal and it renamed all of the files, so hopefully it worked :P fingers crossed :)

Why do I not have a begin2.txt file in my others folder? So when I copy the quickprocess2.bat file in my copied folder, it won't process. Says I am missing begin2.txt file?
