Wake turbulence is turbulence that forms behind an aircraft as it passes through the air. This turbulence includes various components, the most important of which are wingtip vortices and jetwash. Wingtip vortices can remain in the air for up to three minutes after the passage of an aircraft. Wingtip vortices make up the primary and most dangerous component of wake turbulence.

This is a simulation using X-Plane with a T-6 on a formation flight at 10000ft and 140kt.

  • As a Flight Simulator fan, I'd never heard of X-plane until very recently. Does it have the same worldwide selection of airports as FS9/FSX? (Can I fly at my home-base airport, and are runway lengths/widths accurate)? Also, can it be used to practice VOR work and instrument training?

  • @GeneralSirDouglasMcA It does have all airports and it comes in 6 dual layer DVDs, it's excellent for IFR trainning. In fact, there are several FAA approved simulators that use X-Plane as their primary software. Go to x-plane dot com and check it out. ;)

  • what plane is that? I remember seeing it on the .org but can't remember where.

  • @Tomtom793 It's a AT 6G Texan, get it for free at jrollon [dot] com

  • how you did so that it may be the forces acting on the plane?

  • @papirus00000 Just press the "/" key on X-Plane.

  • to be honest, ive done some research over the past couple of days, and it seems fsx was really focused on the visual aspects of flying while most of the people that bought fsx could only experience maybe a third of its visual potential, and now that i see how realistic and in depth the flight dynamics are in X-plane are, in my opinion it outweighs the the graphics of fsx (even on a standard gaming pc) plus in my opinion x-plane seems to have more potential

  • Yes I agree! The flying characteristics in X plane 9 are phenomenal. They certainly did their homework when they made X plane 9. X plane has some bugs they need to work out, but it is still a phenomenal game for those ready to move on after FSX.

  • @GameNewbie

    Sure!!

  • @3snowyman Wow. Looks like im on a mission to dig for that file for wake turbulence. Haha. Thanks though

  • @fenderstratocaster96 Not true... A couple of free downloads and you've got wake turbulence. I don't remember the file name off the top of my head but I could dig deep and find it. But really, never count out the thousands of freeware developers for FSX.

  • thats something you can never experience in FSX...

  • @GeneralSirDouglasMcA I bought it...i think its terrible.. stick with FSX its a lot more realistic

  • Every been on a plane caught in jet wash? I have, it's a lot more intense then that let me tell you. Half the passengers thought they were gonna die. After taking my connecting flight I will never fly again. And I fly 6-10 times a year on average, but no more. That flight I was on with friends who fly multiples times per month, both said it was the worst turbulence they've ever been on.

  • i dropped a cessna from a B52 and there was A LOT of wake turbulence...and jet blast.

  • X-planes flight dynamics can only be used realisticly if the plane model is extremly detailed. If not, the plane will fly badly.

  • @GeneralSirDouglasMcA dont buy it, FSX is way better

  • @bachian whts your specs
