Two tunes by Barnaby Brown (smallpipe) accompanied by Gianluca Dessí (guitar). 'The Palindrome' has 4 parts, played in the order 1 2 3 4 3 2 1. Vessela Nestorova's zest for life was infectious and she was wise with it. Singing and dancing into her 80s, she had all the vigour and cheerfulness of a child. The traditional Bulgarian metre 17/16 has five beats per bar, not all equal in size: 4+4+4+2+3.

'Montgomery' smallpipe made by Julian Goodacre; guitar by George Lowden.
Thanks to David Foley, Carlo D'Alessandro and Bob Whitney.
Recorded at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama, 23 September 2010.
