iriver Lplayer 8GB overview (black)

I thought I'd take a break from the deep thinking and do a review of a PMP (Portable Media Player) that I bought recently to replace my iriver S10.

Korean technology company iriver continues to deliver, with what is probably the second coolest PMP ever made, the Lplayer.

TBH it pretty much kicks the collective asses of everything else on the market, including Apple's entire iPod line, except for maybe the iPhone, which cannot really be considered a PMP because of its phone component. Also it's hard to beat the $100 price tag, which may seem expensive to some, but for an 8GB device that plays video and music, displays images and text, receives FM radio and records voice, all of which fits in the palm of your hand.. now that's power.

And I forgot to mention that it's the most attractive looking piece of technology that I've ever seen.

There are plenty of reviews already, but I thought I'd add mine to the mix anyway, since I do cover a few aspects that the others do not.

I'm thinking about getting this. Can I drag and drop the files? Also, can the background be changed...I would hate to stare at a blue background forever.

One thing they don't tell you in the documentation: there are two file system modes, one of them sucks (I think it's called USM?) and sadly it's the default. That is the first thing you want to set - it reformats the flash memory and makes the device show up as a standard USB mass storage "drive". You can drag and drop either way though.

Don't know about the background, it doesn't bother me so I haven't looked into changing it. There are two visual themes, but they both have a blue bg.

btw headphones cord is often used as antenna, so reception could be much better with the cord is plugged in.

Exscuse me I know Ipod shuffle and the other iriver are the same price though so there really isn't that much of a price comparison?
