This video contains a song called, "Summertime Girl", which features Phil (Tano) Giarratano who was the lead singer of, "Saltwater Taffy." The founders were Rod McBrien, Johnny Giametta, Phil Giarratano, the girls are Kathy Butler and Janie Brannon, from left to right are Phil Tano, Kathy Butler, Janie Brannon, Johnny Giametta, and Rod McBrien who we just lost. Rod McBrien and Johnny Giametta produced all our songs and wrote most. Rod McBrien, 1943 - 2009, was a legendary award-winnning music producer, engineer,
songwriter and overall great guy. Winner of four Clios; engineer of "Leader of the Pack"
and other hits; songwriter for Coca-Cola, Burger King, Miller Beer, and hundreds of other
singable commercials, as well as many anthems honoring veterans, Rod McBrien was a legend in the music business. His work as a group member of the Val-Rays and much later, The Salt Water Taffy with the hit "Finders Keepers," is just a small example of his output. He was one of the key engineers at Allegro Sound Studios in NYC where he worked on hits for The Trade Winds, The Critters, Tommy James and many others (especially for the Kama Sutra & Buddah labels.) An example of his fine talents is featured on a 1970 lp entitled Children of Prague-Old Time Bubble Gum Music, which showcases the songs of the generations of the Sherman Brothers family.

  • I knew Kathy Butler from college days at Northwestern Oklahoma State at Alva. I played in a folk trio called "The Step Trio" together with her husband to be Rich Weinberg and Jerry Devore.

Circumstances were such, that I didn't get to know her very well, but I recall what a pretty girl she was and her love of singing. I was fortunate enough, to have back her on guitar on a few occasions.

  • Phil...No one on here knows how much of a lucky fella you really are. I had the pleasure today, of meeting your ex and former band member, Kathy Weinberg. Found out she was once married to a friend of mine, also named Phil. She is a wonderful lady and still a very charming and beautiful woman. Congrats...Wayne in Tulsa...

  • Hi, Phil. Great collection of videos. I have downloaded most of them to my hard drive.

I'm still in Gainesville but will be moving to the Orlando area in January 2010. Hopefully, I will eventually get to the Boca area and be able to jam with you and the Gigolos occasionally. Jack Donadio aka the Philly Flash.

  • Awesome rarity. Love to hear more Phil.
