On Sept 2nd, a boat ran into the picket fence and lost its oarsman to drowning. We went by it two hours later and were saddened to meet the surviving friend and find out the details. We had a layover at Paradise Lodge, so we hiked up to Blossom Bar to film some of the action. In this video, a raft misses the stll eddy and drifts into the "Picket Fence" to learn firsthand what can happen. They came dangerously close to being victims right next to the boat that lost the oarsman the day before.

Whoever posted the captions for this video nailed it in terms of what the boaters did right and wrong in running Blossom Bar. I would add that the second boat might have avoided a flip if they would have tried to high side on the right tube. Also once in the water they should have assumed the river position - there is a lot of nasty stuff below the surface there just waiting to entrap you.

Just hug the horn rock at the entry (unlike the cat in the video) & you'll be fine. Once you catch the eddy stay left in the slot & start working your way left to avoid the stuff the cat crashed into.
We came through 9/3 & saw the boat. Sorry for your loss.

Wow. GordyMariFilms, I'm sorry for your loss. Can you tell me if he was wearing a pfd? Any other info to share? I'm running this river in a few weeks.
