This is me doing a drum solo while belly dancing on a tabla drum. Although I feel pretty comfortable while on the drum, I would like to find a graceful alternative way of actually getting on the drum head.
I love this piece of music with it's strong beat. I would like to give credit to the musician, but do not know who it is. If you happen to know, please let me know and I'll give proper credit. Music is the essence that sets the mood and the dance is the visual that compliments it.
I think drum solos are intimidating to many belly dancers because of the exact timing we need to place those accents right on the beat. If we are off, everybody knows. I find that "flowy" soft songs allow for more forgiveness versus strong beats that require sharp staccato movements, requiring precise timing.
We needn't be afraid of the drum solo though. I think as dancers we will do just fine so long as we really know the song inside and out...and of course, be passionate about the song! I will not even bother dancing to something that doesn't move me. Pardon the pun, it really was unintended.
Thank you for expressing interest in the performing arts!
What a great idea! I know this drum solo pretty well. We did a choreography at our dance class. But our dance seemes quite boring now. How could you balance on the tabla? Just cool^^

I didn't have trouble with my balance, but what I was very well aware of was needing keeping to keep my body weight off the actual drum head as to not get it out of tune.
I distribute my balance to the outside areas so my feet are resting on the outside frame of the drum instead of on drum head itself.
