Alright, so I've constantly been forgetting to upload this for a month now and finally remembered today while clearing out my audio folder.

I was originally going to record it with video, very low-fi considering my current editing software only allows for 2 videos running simultaneously, but haven't had the time to, so I'm just going to throw the file up with some images.

I'm not sure if Youtube allows Stereo Panning for audio now, or not, but if it does, take notice of the swell pans halfway through, along with the fact that the guitars should be panned correctly. =]

I had to listen to the song for a while and really study it by ear, since most of the tabs I found for it weren't 100%, mostly for the part after the Clean break.

Apart from the drums, everything is entirely from scratch.
Completely instrumental cover, there are no vocals.

All guitars were recorded using Gearbox and Guitar Rig 3, on the BC Rich Virgo.
Using about, 3 or 4 different tones I believe.
The bass was done on a cheap bass I picked up for $200 for some clearance sale, actually made it sound pretty decent I think, again. Hopefully audible on some of your speakers, since I don't get much bass on my laptop.

The keys were done using a VST plugin for Fruityloops Studio 8 called Edirol Orchestral (atleast I think it's Edirol)

Finally, the drums were programmed into Cubase LE and then sent to Ezdrummer using the DrumkitFromHell Add-on, then tweaked a bit.

Overall, I'm pleased with how it turned out, despite not entirely loving the lack of "Wall Of Sound" effect.

If anyone's interested at all, I've included a link to download the mp3.

The only known issue I've been able to pinpoint is that at one point during the solo, when the other leads come in is that the track starts to get a little hot and clip out.. Not entirely sure what caused it, however the audio gate I threw on seems to have brought it down a bit, along with the EQ settings I later used.

I think that's about it.

Please comment and rate, giving your opinions and/or suggestions on the Mix, and overall cover.

Also, in a reply to an increasing amount of mail, Yes, I will have some original works uploaded shortly.
I'm mostly working on completing most of the tracks I've started, along with finding a suitable guitar tone for most of them.

  • So I hope you dont mind sir, but I snagged this track with a youtube downloader and I'm going to put vocals to it. Upload coming soon!

  • Not a problem, in fact, I was hoping someone would eventually do this.

Not sure how well the quality comes out with the youtube downloader, but you could've also downloaded the track from the link in the info section.

  • Nice work, dude!!

The guitars sound WAY too scoopy. Turn off the presence a 'lil bit. Try using some delay and reverb here and there. The guitar that kicks in at 2:25 REALLY needs some delay.

The cymbals and the kick are not loud enough in my opinion. Crank that kickdrum, bro!! :-)

  • Thanks! Always great to get constructive criticism on the "full projects."

    :)

The drums are so quiet because at this point I hadn't figured out the compressor/velocity channel for the midi signal.

The entire track has a hint of reverb, though it's only noticible around 3:03.

Also, personally I think the mix isn't so great due to mixing with headphones as opposed to using speakers hah, but I know I still got a lot to learn

  • Good job. But your drummer needs some work at the end. His pacing is off.

  • This is amazing..

  • I've found out that taking a dump right at the part where the lyrics start is an amazing experience. Very nice

  • Do you have a bass tab somewhere that you've written out for this? Or does the bassline prettymuch fall into line behind the rhythm guitar?

  • this is good but hey great idea is for the rythym in the back, make it more stand out but great

  • Wow, cant believe I missed that lol. Thanks man!
