On Thursday 9 June 2011, the 2011 Premier's Sustainability Awards were held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. The evening was hosted by Catriona Rowntree with the keynote address delivered by S.Richard Fedrizzi, President, CEO and Founding Chairman of the US Green Building Council. The Melbourne Convention Centre is the first convention centre in the world to achieve a 6 Star Green Star environmental rating.

The Premier's Sustainability Awards acknowledge leadership, innovation and outstanding achievement of those who become sustainable in their use of Victoria's resources. The Awards are in their ninth year, and this year's theme was Lead, Create, Innovate. It highlights the role leadership, creativity and innovation plays in forging a future of sustainable energy and resource use for Victoria. The Small Business Category which we won recognises the achievements of small businesses in adopting and implementing sustainability principles to reduce their environmental impact. A small business is defined as a Victorian organisation employing less than 100 employees.

From a 3Fish perspective sustainability leadership means that we aim to provide a quality alternative for individuals and organisations who wish to purchase ethical clothing in Australia, and in doing this:
•Create a commercially successful business with a foundation of social and environmental responsibility;
•Tackle extreme poverty through trade, and
•Build a world class ethical supply chain, free of sweatshops and child labour, with a positive environmental impact.

By establishing our company ethos as "Do The Right Thing", every internal system, every financial decision, every goal we set, our entire business planning process, every improvement we make in our systems, is geared toward creating the most sustainable company we can, minimising our footprint and maximising the benefit we can create with every single item we produce.

TheVictorian Premier's Sustainability Awards help us shed light on the environmental and social tragedy that is the growth and production of conventional cotton garments, and the massive difference that organic cotton farming and fair trade practices can make to environmental sustainability and the eradication of extreme poverty" says Marty Dillon, 3Fish Founder.
"We hope that through the profile of these awards, more and more big and small businesses, governments, retailers, bands, not-for profit organisations will realise that they have ethical, commercially priced garment options available to them right now, and that every dollar they spend can create change in the world" says Natalie Dillon, Co-Founder.
