Yala National Park's most famous residents are elephants and leopards. Both are commonly seen the year round. Leopards are normally seen on rock outcrops and waterholes. The numerous rock outcrops of 1260 square kilometer park affords vantage view points of strikingly beautiful landscape. Birdwatching at Yala National Park is good year-round, though fro October to March is the season for migratory birds arriving at Yala to escape northern winter.
