N°1 was gone on road racing !! Jean Michel Bayle .. They could imagine they were the bests.

nothing like listening to all those 500's go up the uphill....man, i hate the sound of 4 strokes

No problem, it was edited down on television.. Those motos were at least 30 minutes long I forget how long exactly though. Still cool watching the old open class 2 strokes.

@MrSimo893 Thanks, sorry I don't have any more 500 national races. I do have a couple 500 motos from cmc golden state nationals from 89' I think. Just search my videos for golden state you should find them.

Back in my era they ran double class Nationals and the 500/125 races were the best. Seeing the different lines each type of bike demanded as well as the sounds of a full gate of 500's versus a gate of 125's was amazing. It was like thunder (500's) as opposed to (swarm of bees) in to the 1st corner. The 500's needed finesse so the riders could survive 45 minutes and the 125's needed non-stop aggression, both of which were tiring for the riders.
My last year was on a YZ465 and it was fun!

@pursang833 I used to have a old yz490. That thing vibrated like crazy, it was a fun bike to ride though. Had some serious mid-range power. I heard the 465's ran better. I just trail rode it though, I could imagine how much endurance it would take to hold on to that thing for a 45min moto.

30 minutes + 2 laps.
Those old open bikes were for MEN. Nothing like taking a bike that had 70 horsepower at 9500 rpm, was as wide as a sofa and turned like a truck and making it go fast!

I know what your talking about! I had a 85' cr500 and a couple other 500's. I loved the acceleration of that bike, the handling and ergonomics left allot to be desired.
I still have a old cr 480, that needs restoring though.
