Indiana Jones and the Temple Of Doom (1984)

Well. The movie apprently takes place in 1935...the song/musical Anything Goes was written the year before. The Cheongsam style gown Willie is wearing was popularized in the 1920's, however. The hair is a little bit later, I suppose, but who can be sure? Big curls matched with a sleek comb up were popular.

steven spielberg said he wanted to include this number because he's always wanted to do a musical number in his movies, it was also the only time john williams conducted for a song with lyrics.

You can tell. When I saw this movie again after so many years, I immediately thought, "Wow. Spielberg must have wanted to direct a musical number REAL BAD!"

Actually John Williams had already done the orchestrations for "Fiddler on the Roof" at this point.

i remember watching this one over and over again when i was little, and i could never figure out how those girls managed to do the splits backwards like that lol

She said "my new dress from Shanghai". Perhaps they were trying to show that she was very up to date in the latest fashions.
