This is a great idea for DSLR's!! A little mod of adding a side tray on the tripod for a monitor could work as well. Perhaps using different washers (teflon) or bearings would make the vertical less shaky. Thank you for taking the time to post this.

This is so far the smartest way to make an easy jib in which you can tilt and pan. Thanks for the posting. I'm sure that tripod wasn't cheap if it can handle that much weight of the aluminum and the camera as well.
