@SharksKid They don't have a history of tent revivalists, patent-medicine men, rainmakers, and travelling circuses like we do; British cons were aimed more at get-rich-quick schemes, buying land in exotic parts of the Empire (a variation on buying the Brooklyn Bridge), weird gambling schemes, and grifting off aristocrats. Fake psychiatry with alien ghosts was too far out for their breed of confidence man.

this is about the same as the film detailing, unofficially, hubbard's life. it's called "The Profit" and scientology had it banned during the Lisa McPherson trial.
although the film is still available to download via bit torrents.
i seriously suggest watching it. great movie!

It appears to be inate of the Human condition, a requirement for a story (Myth) in order to dictate behavior (Ethos) while they funtion they connect Man to cosmic order (Religio) and every 1000 years or so a new one replaces the old.
LRH anticipated and exploited this, and brilliantly cooked up a whopper.
If you really want to get "clear" read Joseph Campbell or Carl Jung and find out why the Human psyche needs these stories.
It's far more interesting ,logical and adult.
