first heard this in oslo earlier this year (at which point he interrupted himself to talk briefly about bowler shoes). it's one of those songs that i just can't imagine anyone other than rufus writing, singing or even touching. this is 4 minutes of beauty incarnate.

At his Mother's (Kate Mcgarrigle) funeral on Monday he said it was one of her favourites and it was the last song he played for her on her deathbed.
This is the song he performed at the Basilica. There wasn't a murmur from the over 500 in attendance as he was playing and singing.

He talked about this song at the end of this week's BBC documentary 'imagine'. He said it was the name of a childhood friend, and about the pull and memory of that 'eden' time when things were good, before having to deal with the difficulties of life, like his mothers recent illness. He does a beautiful solo version for the film crew - it's on iPlayer at the moment at least.
