The storming, and subsequent take over of the Bastille, ushered the beginning of the French Revolution. No longer were the angry peasants defying local lords, but they were now striking at the symbolic heart of the monarchy. The Bastille, a hated emblem of control and domination, became the war cry for hundreds of thousands of scorned and maltreated revolutionaries.

There were food riots in Paris, which eventually turned to riots, which eventually meant the people overthrew governance of Paris. The Kind did not like this very much, so he sent his army. When the Parisians learned the army was underway the set to find muskets and gunpowder. That's why they were at the Bastille.

  • @DavBlc7 That is correct Swiss law today forbids the raising of miltary units in Switzerland for foreign service with the exception of the Vatican Guards. Not all of which wear the cerimonial uniforms BTW. Some can be seen holding rather modern assault rifles and wearing modern uniforms.

  • @Olfux or Swedish - both looked similar.

  • @SW28fan The only Swiss guards outside Switzerland today are in the Vatican city though they wore uniforms designed long before the French Revolution. Am I correct?

  • @SW28fan The roayl guad was allso composed by swiss soldeirs.
