Well, jazz was a victim of The Takeover!

I am still waiting for a Detroit station to pick up the smooth jazz format, beginning to wonder if they ever will.

Is there even any smooth jazz in Detroit anymore?

Well there is, technically, if you buy an HD radio, but the amount of youtube friends I have is bigger than the amount of ppl with HD radio. lol

Also, this was Detroit's 3rd Smooth jazz station to bite the dust. The very first one was 92-3 The Wave WVAE, which was a pre-cursor to Smooth jazz, known as New age. It lasted from Dec 87 to Dec 89, it then became "the mix" WMXD which it is to this day. Another try was on the cursed 102.7 signal know as "CD 102.7" it lasted less then a year and flipped to hard rock. Then... V came on Dec 20, 1995. WVMV was actually put together by the same folks who modled 92.3 after 94.7 in LA.

First of all, thanks for the kind comments.
Second of all, I know that the 90's were completely opposite of what's going on right now. Back then, Top 40's were on life support. Advertisers couldn't get enough of Jazz in the 90's.

I have to point out one thing.......TOP 40 STATIONS ARE NOT THE TOP LISTENED TO STATIONS IN DETROIT! longisland...the suburb ares r not considred Detroit! The only time people from the suburbs claim detroit, is when they r cheering at a damn hocky game. Anyother time they r not detroiters....u get where im comming from?

They may not be considered "part of Detroit", but Detroit's signals reach into the burbs just as stations in all big cities do.
