The good doctor grooves a lot here, and plays a beautiful solo. He said that this is how they played this in New Orleans Spiritual Churches (probably the best advertisement for Christian churches ever given from somebody who's into voodoo).

I am learning these tunes/this style pretty quickly--but w only avg sized hands---so I'm having to cheat around certain stuff...damn wish I could do the C to E or D to F#

  • His ability to just rock out with his left hand always amazes me.

  • All the best licks in this one. Doc's playing is so exciting and satisfying. This is my all time favorite "Saints" by anyone. Love the contrast in styles/speeds and the setup from the dirge to the romp.

  • @0008890 Yeah C to E is pushing it for me but watch "Iko Iko" he just rocks a D to F# tenth so easily

  • @BMatthews0 No, kidding, I can do that too, I don't play that much piano as I play bass or guitar but my fingers can reach from C1 to E2

  • Of course Dr John is master.

  • Tenths aren't so hard to play, you just have to practice your hand should be stretched and relaxed by tenths. Of course if you have really small hand, you have to use arpeggio.

  • the left hand reach on this guy is unreal! He plays tenths like normal people play octaves

  • I would cry, too, if I could hit that hot lick at 1:40 like Dr John.

  • I was crying at the end too lol
