Phil pulled this off a couple of years ago at the L.A. Open. The putting green has a sandtrap in the middle, so he had to go over. Hard to tell but he nearly holed it (missed by about 4 inches). Ernie Els had tried it right before Phil but his chip only went about 4 ft. off the ground. Mickelson really went for it.

  • that is impossible not to take a divot because to play this shot from this lie you have to have your weight on the front foot.

  • @toreman81 well, i was there and he didn't take a divot, so what's your point?

  • what if he took a divot...

  • @yankeesfan123221 no penalty other than embarassment

  • @antonio3426 it isn't a penalty, I always wondered how you were allowed to do that because if you ground the Putter while hitting its a stroke, but you can chip?

  • @jdlmbgh like I said, there's no penalty for what he did. There is also no penalty for grounding your putter UNLESS it's deemed that you cause the ball to move, even slightly, before impact. Then it is a one stroke penalty.

  • I could only dream of that! I'd take an enormous pie out of the green

  • now you don't get any...you shouldn't chip on the green if it's not neccesary, but if you have to then they can't punish you for that...

  • @antonio3426 ahh ok, was wondering about that, because the man i saw had lost 100,000$ because his putter grounded while hitting the ball

  • @jdlmbgh its not a stroke to ground your putter on the green wtf your thinking of shots played from the hazard? because even if you dropkick a putt it only counts for the stroke of you hitting the ball

  • lol.. It's possible to take no divot if you have the right equipment. Phil using a low bounce 64 degree wedge makes this much more feasible than most peoples regular high bounce wedges.

  • That just highlights the difference between the good and the great. I'm off 4 and wouldn't even think that shots an option unless I wanted to be banned from the club for moon raking a green. In fact the shot wouldn't even be an option b/c I wouldn't have thought if it.

  • My favourite shot the FLOPPAH!!!

  • @antonio3426

he must of used a 64 degree then

  • If i wouldve tried that, i wouldve either took a fat divot out the green, or bladed the crap out of it and hit a spectator lol

  • THE BALLS!!!!!!!!!
