The GOSL needs to de-mine the areas so they can be inhabited again and also need to weed out all the remaining Tigers who are a danger not only to Sinhalese but to Tamils and Muslims also. to answer your question, i don't know. they say it's so they don't let go tamil tigers who are living in those concentration camps. Pro-tamils say that this is simply a racist issue. I have no idea if what the gov has said is their true motive or there is an underlying motive.
