There are four warm weather parades in Owosso, Michigan: The huge Curwood Festival Heritage Parade, which draws an audience of 45,000 to 60,000; the Kids in Curwood Parade, which is held the evening before the Curwood Festival Heritage Parade; the Owosso High School Homecoming Parade; and the smallest, but most important parade of all, the Owosso Memorial Day Parade.

Featured in the parade are Owosso veterans, the Owosso High School Freshman Marching Band, and the Owosso Middle School Marching Band.

The Owosso Memorial Day Parade begins in front of Lafayette Square Park, which is in the residential area of North Washington Street. It then heads south down Washington Street for nearly a mile to Oak Hill Cemetery. There, a solemn ceremony is held among the graves of a few of the relatively huge number of Owosso citizens per capita who served in the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, Viet Nam, the Gulf War, and in Iraq and Afghanistan.

  • Hello hopeahooper; It's good to hear from you. I'm glad you play flute and piccolo, which are very necessary instruments. I played drums, and I still march to drum cadences in my mind while I'm walking down the streets. Go Owosso!

  • Hello Hopeahooper - Glad to hear you are in the Owosso Middle School Band. It's amazing how good you all are, and how much better you get from year-to-year. Keep up the great work. I was in that band, too, and I loved it, and I think we played "It's a Grand Old Flag" as well.

  • that wasnt 2009 it had 2 have been 2008

  • Thanks for your comment. However, I took the video myself just a few months ago, on Memorial Day 2009. Furthermore, I wasn't even in town on Memorial Day 2008. Therefore, unless I went through time warp, the video was taken on Memorial Day 2009.

  • wait wait what month is memorial day even? i say that that cant be (which i might be wrong but idk) this year because im in the middle school band and that wasnt the song we did this year

  • Memorial Day is observed each year on the last Monday in May. Therefore, in 2009, Memorial Day was observed on Monday, May 25th. In the properties section of my video, it shows that I began recording the video at 3:59 p.m. on Monday, May 25, 2009.

  • Hey Jaggedscar36 - I'm glad we both played in the Owosso Middle School Marching Band/Owosso Junior High School Marching Band. I played drums. What did you play?
