I will be performing this piece later this semester for my jury. This is my favorite version so far, Bryn Terfel is excellent!

It's great to see this and hear both how far this piece came when he's done it in later years, as well as his amazing, if very different, interpretation then.

Always a good sound but I find the whole a bit studied. The dynamics and tempi seem more driven by a need to vary or impress than a genuine response to the text.

I sat next to him in the bass section of a choir in London(North London Chorus). What an experience for me. He was about 19 and a student at the Guildhall.Now he is one of the worl's best opera and lieder basses.
What a career since! But way back then one could hear the fantastic quality of his voice. Add to that his modesty and you have a truly great artist.

His German pronounciation is really good here,sounds more "natural" than years ago where his "Erlkönig" was nearly not to understand. Although I like him and his singing, it sounds to me that he is barking some phrase instead of singing.Nevertheless one of my favorites in opera music.
