6-7 is right. I built my v3 board in 5 hours over 2 sittings. Pretty much step by step and for me to swap to edis its a simple 2 wire msd plug between the 2.

I would say a good quality temp controlled soldering iron will help you a lot. I made the some little electronics projects as testers with a cheap pen soldering iron, They worked ok but after getting the temp controlled station the soldering became mush easier and better joints.
You will need to know basic automotive electronics, Like Hall and VR signals, relays and what variable resistance sensors work. This is all covered in the megasquirt website and documents

I'm thinking of getting Megasquirt. I would like to know was it hard to put it together. On a scale of 1 to 10 how hard was it ?

I have automotive and basic soldering, I would say 6-7 out of 10, The megasquirt has great instructions and very helpful forum, The jimstim was easy to build but took a little while to get working.
