The mosque of Muhammad 'Ali Pasha was built between 1828 and 1848. Perched on the summit of the citadel, this Ottoman mosque, the largest to be built in the first half of the 19th c., is, with its animated silhouette and twin minarets, the most visible mosque in Cairo.

I also was in Egypt in October of 2008, looks like you were at this mosque only a few days or so after I was. You got some nice pictures of it. At the time I was there I didn't know his tomb was inside, I was too busy taking pictures & video instead of listening to my guide. I just put up a video here of my visit to this mosque (also shows another mosque & the Hanging Church), it's the one called "Egypt (Churches/Holy Places)".... check it out.
