The Honorable Arne Duncan, U.S. Secretary of Education, speaks about the use of seclusion and restraint within schools at a hearing regarding the Obama Administrations Education Agenda on May 20, 2009.
I have been a classroom teacher for 34 years. I love my students. It saddens me to hear stories of children being abused in schools. At the same time too much has been placed on the slates of the classroom teachers. We have the responsibility of protecting all of the children that are in our classrooms. When one of these problems occurs it becomes a danger to all. These children even hit adults. A five year old is small but, a small child can be like a wild animal. It can be scarey.
The Division of Children and Families (DCF) claim they have no authority over schools even if there are verified findings. The police say you have to prove intent to charge someone with child abuse. The run around goes on and on,it's about time someone is listening & they better do something about it! The Dept of Education for each state & School Districts have proven time and time again they can not police themselves & shouldn't."
"The system has failed our special needs children,Florida is one of the worst. No one is above the law when it comes to child abuse yet school systems are not being held accountable.
Back when My child was restrained (you can see that video on UTUBE VIOLENT LESSONS) I wrote a letter to JUDY HUEMANN who had this job under Clinton. THEY DID NOTHING>
i want to be a school principal and it would hurt me to do it. as a principal i would rather be fired then put kids in seclusion

So what you're suggesting is that *accidental* abuse is not a chargeable offense, and clearly that is ludicrous.
