With a 240z you can swap in the 2jzgte and a well tuned 2jz can make 1000+ whp. So yes you can compete with the higher end cars.

This movie talks about how things like class don't matter on the Wangan, but I think that's false. The GTR is about $90K, then there's the Ferrari and the Porsche. Even though Akio drives a Z I bet all the parts he put in the engine are expensive and most lower class people working 2 jobs on minimum wage usually don't make enough money to create a car that can compete with those kinds of super cars.
