Finałowy koncert Shalom na Szerokiej podczas XIX Festiwalu Kultury Żydowskiej na krakowskim Kazimierzu.

Fragment utworu "Dumai" w wykonaniu Daniela Kahna & The Painted Bird z ich najnowszej płyty Partisans & Parasites.
Wykonanie bardziej apetyczne niż to na płycie, bo słychać i widać Wanię :)

Daniel Kahn - wokal, akordeon
Vanya Zhuk - gitara elektryczna, wokal
Michael Tuttle - kontrabas
Hampus Melin - perkusja
Michael Winograd - klarnet
Dan Blacksberg (najprawdopodobniej) - puzon
dodatkowo przeszkadza: Frank London na trąbce :)

Here is another version of this tune.

The description has it in Yiddish and English

  • @beidlschneider

BTW, Yiddish has many dialects. And as in English there are more than one word for many things. Tate and mama may be used but so is muter and fater.

  • @beidlschneider

Ikh farshteyn. Ober, Yiddish began in the Rhineland and is based on Medieval High German but it contained (and still does) some Hebrew and Aramaic words. When the Jewish ppl migrated eastward into Slavic lands they began to borrow Slavic words (like bubbe & zayde). Some Yiddish is based on Latin. For example the term 'betn got" or benshen comes from benedictiōn. But mostly Yiddish is very old High German.

    Interesting language.

  • @Lagolop

i only know as deytsche wort dumai. it is derived from old high german. the yiddish language is a mixture von a lot of european languages. like father is called tate in yiddish and also in polonish.
